Getting There & Away
AIR
The end of chopper flights to Scilly mean that the only way to get to the islands by air is
now by plane. Skybus ( 0845-710 5555; www.islesofscilly-travel.co.uk ) runs several daily flights
from Land's End Airport (adult/child single £70/54) and Newquay (£85/66.50), plus at
least one daily from Exeter and Bristol in summer.
Cheaper day-trip fares are available.
BOAT
The cheapest way to reach the islands is the Scillonian Ferry ( 0845-710 5555; www.ios-
travel.co.uk ; Mar-Oct) , which plies the choppy waters between Penzance and St Mary's
(adult/child single £37.50/19). There's at least one daily crossing in summer (except on
Sunday), dropping to four a week in the shoulder months. Day-trip returns cost adult/child
£35/18, or there's a family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children which costs £75 per per-
son. The ferry doesn't run from November to April.
Getting Around
BOAT
The St Mary's Boatmen Association ( 01720-423999; scillyboating.co.uk) runs regular day trips and
ferry services from St Mary's to the outer islands, usually leaving in the early morning
and returning in late afternoon. You don't need to book, but make sure you label your lug-
gage clearly so it can be deposited at the right harbour. It also offers fishing, sightseeing
and wildlife excursions.
The standard return fare for any island is adult/child £8.40/4.20, or £13/6.50 for a
multi-island circular trip.
BUS
The only bus services are on St Mary's. The airport bus (£4) departs from Hugh Town 40
minutes before each flight, while the Island Rover ( 01720-422131; www.islandrover.co.uk ; £8) of-
fers a twice-daily sightseeing trip in a vintage bus in summer.
