DON'T MISS
KYNANCE COVE
The Lizard has some special coves, but top of the pile is Kynance Cove , an impossibly pretty pocket of coast
tucked under towering cliffs and wildflower-strewn headland. Once an important source of the red-green serpent-
ine rock favoured by the Victorians, the cove is now owned by the National Trust. A rough path leads down from
the cliff car park, allowing Kynance's panorama of rock stacks, arches, caves, islands and vivid sapphire seas to
unfurl in dramatic fashion. It's dreamy stuff, no matter whether the sun's blazing or the winter storms are raging -
but take care when swimming and be careful not to be cut off by the tide, especially if you're venturing to As-
paragus Island and Gull Rock.
There's also an excellent eco-friendly cafe just behind the beach, which does great crab sandwiches and
battered fish, and sells the usual beach supplies.

4yr free; year-round) Endearingly eccentric campsite in a private subtropical garden in Liz-
ard village. Nearly all sites have electric hook-ups and views of the sea, and the Lizard's
beaches, shops and pubs are all within easy reach. There's a laundry block and well-
stocked shop, but the unisex loos might not be to everyone's liking.
Lizard YHA
( 0845-371 9550; www.yha.org.uk/hostel/lizard-point ; dm from £18, r £52) Even if you're not a habitual
hosteller, this YHA hostel boasts the kind of location that might just convert you. It's in a
former Victorian hotel beside the lighthouse above Lizard Point, so the coastal vistas are
out of this world; summer BBQs and guided walks are a bonus.

Landewednack House
( 01326-290877; www.landewednack.uniquehomestays.com ; Church Cove; d £110-180; ) A slice of
Lizard luxury: a restored rectory surrounded by two green acres and a gorgeous pool. It's
been carefully modernised while retaining the house's heritage: the big Cornish hearth is
still in situ, while little windows peep out over the grounds and the house's private chef
prepares yummy meals.
