Helston Folk Museum
( 01326-564027; Market Pl; 10am-1pm Mon-Sat) There's plenty of background on the
Furry Dance at the town's quirky museum, where the displays include replica shopfronts,
a 5-tonne cider press and a display on local hero Bob Fitzsimmons, the first man to simul-
taneously hold the world titles for middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight box-
ing.
MUSEUM
Flambards
( 01326-573404; www.flambards.co.uk ; admission incl rides adult/child £17.95/12.50; opens 10.30am, last ad-
mission 2.30pm) Just outside town is Flambards, Cornwall's oldest theme park. Attractions in-
clude the wartime-themed Britain in the Blitz, an aviation gallery and a reconstructed
Victorian village, plus various outdoor rides: there's a log flume, a rollercoaster and a
spiralling Skyraker amongst other things. It's hardly Alton Towers, but it'll keep the kids
entertained for an afternoon. Note that outside July and August, the rides only run on cer-
tain days, so it's worth phoning ahead to check.

Trelowarren
Trelowarren ( 01326-221224; www.trelowarren.com ; Mawgan) has been in the hands of the
Vyvyan family for six centuries and sprawls over 1000 acres of land between Goonhilly
and the Helford River. Several woodland walks and country trails wind across the estate,
including one to the Halliggye Fougou , an underground chamber on the site of an old Iron
Age hillfort.
The estate's stylish restaurant, New Yard ( 01326-221224; www.newyardrestaurant.co.uk ; Trelowar-
ren; mains £9.50-16; lunch 12.30-2pm & dinner 7-9pm Tue-Sat, lunch only on Sun) , makes a luxurious
place for lunch, but you'd be wise to book.
