In-Depth Information
( 01736-368686; 5 Parade St; mains £4-10; 9am-5pm Mon-Sat) For afternoon tea and crumbly
cakes, there's nowhere better in Penzance than the Honey Pot, opposite the Acorn Arts
Centre. It attracts punters across the Penzance spectrum, from arty types supping cap-
puccinos to earth-mums tucking into fruit teas and homity pie. Naturally, nearly
everything's homemade and local.
Coldstreamer Inn
( 01736-362072; www.coldstreamer-penzance.co.uk ; Gulval; mains £11-17.95; open daily from 10am) This
inn in nearby Gulval is a real corker. Chef Tom Penhaul has a strong local pedigree, with
stints at the now-defunct Abbey Restaurant and the Gurnard's Head, and his stylish, tasty
food (steak with savoy cabbage, pork belly with celeriac purée) has earned many ad-
mirers, including a well-deserved mention in the Michelin pub guide.

back double-floored diner down an alley off Chapel St. Steaks take the honours: choose
your cut and match it with your choice of sauce or spicy rub. Seafood and veggie options
are more limited, but that doesn't seem to deter the punters - booking is advisable.

Admiral Benbow

( 01736-363448; 46 Chapel St, Penzance) On historic Chapel St, the salty old Benbow looks like
it's dropped from the pages of Treasure Island, with nautical decor mostly reclaimed from
shipwrecks: anchors, lanterns, figureheads and all.
