In-Depth Information
another circle east of the Mên-an-Tol, the Nine Maidens ; the name derives from the Cornish
word maedn (later mên ) meaning stone.
Most picturesque of all is the Boscawen-un circle , about halfway between Penzance and
Land's End on the A30. Follow directions as for Carn Euny, but ignore the turning and
stay on the A30 for another half-mile till you reach Lands End Pine Ltd on your left; the
track up to the circle starts directly opposite.
Information
You'll need a decent map to find many of the sites; some are well signposted and reached
via well-trodden trails, while others are well off the beaten-track. The OS Explorer Map
102 covers the whole Penwith Peninsula (including Land's End) and details most of the
area's ancient sites.
The useful pages at www.pznow.co.uk/historic1/circles.html provide some useful back-
ground info.
