Hayle
Set beside a wide river estuary, Hayle grew up as an industrial harbour during the great
mining boom of the 18th and 19th centuries. Grand old Victorian buildings line the water-
front and the area around Foundry Square, but the town has never quite managed to recap-
ture its former status, despite several mooted projects to redevelop the harbourfront.

, a bird sanctuary with a population of parrots, parakeets,
eagles, owls and other birds of prey. Feeding and display flights are held throughout the
day: look out for one of the park's prize animals, Archie the Bald Eagle, who regularly
takes centre stage. There's also an indoor Jungle Barn play centre which is handy if the
summer weather takes an unfavourable turn.
