two rocks known locally as the Bawden Rocks, or the Cow and Calf, which according to local legend were hurled
there by the local giant Bolster. From here, the coast path tracks round to
St Agnes Head , travelling through
thick heather and gorse.
The trail then swings south, opening out onto the exposed cliffs around
Tubby's Head before dropping
down to the picturesque mine workings and chimney stacks at
Wheal Coates , one of the most photographed
in Cornwall. From here it's a steep walk downhill to the cove of
Chapel Porth , where you can fuel up with a
hot tea and hedgehog ice cream from the shack cafe.
From here, backtrack to the Wheal Coates mine ruins, and this time turn inland along the uphill path, which
leads to a car park beside Beacon Drive . Turn left, then immediately right through Beacon Cottage Touring
Park, where you'll see signs to the Beacon . The path climbs sharply up the heathery hilltop, with truly
majestic views of St Agnes and the surrounding coastline, and inland towards Carn Brea.
From the top, there are several trails leading back towards Goonvrea Rd, from where it's an easy downhill
stroll back into the centre of St Agnes village. Follow the road down through town past the St Agnes Hotel,
and take the footpath down past the terraced houses known as the Stippy Stappy , which leads to Trevaun-
ance Cove. Reward yourself with a well-earned pint of homebrewed ale and a ploughman's lunch at the Drift-
wood.

across the hills above Trevellas Porth. It's little more than a big grassy field with a couple
