Getting Around
Getting around by public transport is perfectly possible in Devon and Cornwall; there's a decent bus network between
main towns, plus several wonderfully scenic train lines.
Bus Convenient for reaching smaller towns and villages, but can be infrequent outside summer. Many buses don't run
on Sundays.
Train Main towns, including Exeter, Plymouth, St Austell, Truro and Penzance, are on the main line from London Pad-
dington. Branch lines serve several smaller towns.
Bike Rural lanes and dedicated bike trails make for great cycling, but be prepared for hills. Most large towns have bike
hire outlets.
Car Having your own wheels is the best way to explore, but you'll need to factor in traffic, parking, petrol and narrow
lanes.
Boat Ferries cross most of the region's big rivers, including the Fal, Fowey, Helford, Dart and Tamar; some carry bikes
and cars, others are pedestrian-only.
