In-Depth Information
dominated by the craggy bulk of Steeple Point. These beaches are usually relatively quiet
even in summer, although swimming can be dangerous due to strong rip tides.
Three miles south of town, Widemouth Bay (pronounced widmuth ) is Bude's best family
beach, offering good swimming and plenty of facilities, plus seasonal lifeguard cover.
Though it looks like one long continuous stretch at low tide, it's officially two beaches
(North and South) divided by the spiny spur of Black Rock.
Activities
Bude Surf Schools
Bude has several low-key surf schools that make a great alternative to the hustle and
bustle of the ones around Newquay. Most of Bude's beaches produce useable surf, but
Crooklets and Widemouth Bay tend to be the most reliable. All the local surf schools
provide equipment and minibus transport to the beach.
