Ferries shuttle back and forth throughout the day. The crossing only takes about twenty
minutes, so if you've missed the boat, just join the queue and wait for the next one.
Tregony, Veryan & Portscatho
By road, the first town of note on the Roseland is Tregony, once an important market town
and river port on the Fal's eastern tributary. Today it's a quiet village. As you drive past,
look out for the almshouses on Tregony Hill, originally built in 1696 for the town's poor,
and restored in 1895.
Four miles further south is Veryan, another sleepy country village that's home to a
couple of art galleries and an excellent village pub. At the top of the hill above the village
are its best-known landmarks: two circular roundhouses, whose lack of corners sup-
posedly made them devil-proof (since there's nowhere to hide in the corners).
Another 7 miles south is the one-street village of Gerrans and the nearby port of Ports-
catho, formerly one of the busiest pilchard ports on Cornwall's south coast. The village
boasts one of the county's largest granite breakwaters, alongside a smattering of galleries,
knick-knack shops and second homes.

fields between Gerrans and Portscatho. There's ample space, even in summer, plus a
wooden 'snug', and static caravans for hire if you prefer something more stable over your
head than a sheet of canvas. During the summer, local artist Mac Dunlop holds weekly art
and music sessions around the campsite fire: see www.caravanserai.info for details.

Lugger Hotel
