house is handy for town, and refurbishment has brightened up the rooms with fresh colour
schemes and contemporary furnishings. Some rooms have skylights, and there's parking -
although the hotel's popular with coach tours so space can be hard to find.

this efficient city-centre pad (formerly the Royal Hotel), geared towards the business
crowd. Bold colours, wall-mounted TVs and sleek furniture keep things uncluttered, and
there are 'aparthotels' for longer stays (£129). Cheaper rates at weekends.

This converted convent is
Truro's grandest hotel, but the style is more country than contemporary. Antique ward-
robes, sleigh beds and drapes in the generous bedrooms; the best have views over the
hotel's manicured grounds.

and imaginative vegetarian mains, as well as a copious selection of herbal teas. The cafe's
upstairs, and there's a wholefood and vitamin shop downstairs.
