Small is beautiful, as this fabulous deli-diner ably
demonstrates. Tempting charcuterie, homemade tarts, inventive salads and gourmet
quiches fill the counter cabinets, and there are evening tapas sessions several times a
week. It's up an easy-to-miss alley off Market St, next to Beerwolf Books.

The produce at this zingy bistro is Cornish, but the flavours are
much more exotic. African dishes feature heavily: start with falafels or
trinchado bunny-
chow
(slow-cooked beef), then follow up with
espetado
(barbecued rump skewers) or
bo-
botie
(spiced lamb stew). Refreshingly different.
Gylly Beach Café
( 01326-312884;

; Gyllyngvase Beach; mains £10.95-15.95; 9am-11pm; )
A great
location and a decked patio over Gyllyngvase are the main draws at this lively beach res-
taurant. It covers all bases: fry-ups and pancakes for brekkie, platters of antipasti for
lunch, quality steak, seafood and pasta after dark. It's open late for drinks but gets very
busy.

Stein's Fish & Chips
( 01841-532700; Discovery Quay; fish £7.85-9.25; 12-2.30pm & 5-9pm)
Rick Stein's only non-Pad-
stow restaurant is on Falmouth's Discovery Quay. The menu is the same as his Padstow
fish-and-chip shop: classic beer-battered cod and hake, alongside more unusual options
such as monkfish and John Dory. Whether it's worth the premium price is a matter of
opinion.
