Rising Sun
( 01566-86636; www.therisingsuninn.co.uk ; Altarnun; mains £9-16) Moorland travellers have been
slaking their thirst for over 500 years at this delightfully rural pub, but it feels surprisingly
up-to-date inside, with a modern pub menu, a locally sourced ethos and a smart dining
room. Ales come from Penpont Brewery just down the road. You're also welcome to
camp in the pub's field, but there's a three-night minimum.

Blisland Inn
( 01208-850739; www.bodminmoor.co.uk/blislandinn ; Blisland; drinks £3-5) Popular ale-drinker's pub,
with toby jugs, vintage photos and beer-mats adorning the walls, and at least seven ales
and a local scrumpy on tap. Look out for the blackboard tallying all the ales served since
the owners arrived - nearly 3000 at the last count. Little wonder it was previously named
Pub of the Year by the ale-quaffing aficionados at CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

Launceston, this excellent cafe makes most of its meals using veg from its own kitchen
garden, and all the bread, fish and meat comes from within a radius of a few miles. Craft
workshops are held throughout the week.

Sterts
( 01579-362382; www.sterts.co.uk ; Upton Cross) Catch some culture surrounded by the wilds of
the moor at this atmospheric alfresco theatre, near the village of Upton Cross. It's not
quite as spectacular as the Minack, but at least there's a permanent awning to protect you
