TOP OF CHAPTER
Lydford
POP 376
A winding string of ancient granite cottages, plus a ruined castle and a gorgeous gorge;
Lydford makes for a perfectly peaceful night's stop. This tranquil backwater was once the
administrative centre of the whole moor, and in the Saxon times of Aethelred II, royal
coins were also minted here.
