Gages Mill
( 01364-652391; www.gagesmill.co.uk ; Buckfastleigh Rd; s/d/f £60/80/100; ) Walk into this easy-go-
ing, 14th-century farmhouse and feel instantly at home. The guest lounge is framed by
arches of exposed stone, while cheery bedrooms sport gingham checks and the occasional
beam. There's a garden to picnic in by day, and a well-stocked honesty bar by night.
Agaric @ Tudor House
( 01364-654478; www.agaricrestaurant.co.uk ; 30 North St; s £58, d £124-140) They may be on the fringe
of Dartmoor, but Agaric's impeccable rooms wouldn't be out of place in Soho. Decor
ranges from gentleman's club (hard woods and writing desks) to boudoir-esque glam (re-
claimed furniture, and glinting lights set in the bathroom floor). A local-food breakfast is
cooked as late as you like, and you can help yourself from the tins of homemade cookies
on the kitchen shelves.

Agaric Restaurant
( 01364-654478; www.agaricrestaurant.co.uk ; 30 North St; 2-course lunch £16, dinner mains £16-23;
noon-2pm Wed-Fri, 7-9pm Wed-Sat) Some of the food you tuck into here has been forraged by the
owners, some is dropped off by locals when they have a surplus crop. That sums up Agar-
ic's approach: first-class, local, seasonal produce transformed into fabulous tasting, un-
fussy food. And whether you tuck into cured meat, terrines, ice cream or cheese, it'll all
be homemade.
