In-Depth Information

tock to Merrivale and Princetown; one bus a day goes onto Two Bridges and Postbridge.
Transmoor Link/Bus 82 Runs on summer Saturdays and Sundays only (mid-May to
mid-September) between Tavistock and Exeter, stopping at Yelverton, Princetown, Two
Bridges, Postbridge, Warren House Inn and Moretonhampstead. One bus each way covers
the whole route; with two services each way running between Postbridge and Tavistock
(stopping at Princetown and Two Bridges). The service is particularly prone to annual
changes, so check for updates.
Haytor Hoppa Runs on summer Saturdays only (adult/child/family £5/2/10; Easter to
October), providing four buses between Newton Abbot train station, Haytor, Widecombe-
in-the-Moor and Bovey Tracey.
Passes
Dartmoor Sunday Rover (adult/child/family £7.50/5/16; Jun-Sep) Gives unlimited Sunday travel on
most moorland bus routes; buy from drivers or at Plymouth train station.
CAR
The A38 and A30 dual carriageways frame Dartmoor, while the single-lane B3212 carves
a path across the centre, linking Moretonhampstead, Postbridge and Princetown.
Countless single-track lanes lead away from these central routes, some becoming very
steep and narrow; signs only sometimes indicate when that is the case. Much of the moor
is unfenced grazing and has a 40mph speed limit. Be warned: you're likely to come across
sheep, ponies and even cows on the road.
PARKING
Many moorland towns and villages have pay-and-display car parks. On the moor itself,
there are numerous, free car parks; sometimes they're little more than lay-bys for half a
dozen cars. The surface is rough to very rough.
