Cycling
Tackle tough terrain or freewheel down a hill - on Dartmoor there are routes for everyone.
You can cycle on roads and public bridleways, but not on footpaths or across open coun-
tryside. The DNPA sells an off-road map and can advise about other routes. Tourist offices
sell the Dartmoor Cycling Map (£13). Here are some of the key cycle routes:
Plym Valley Trail A traffic-free, 7-mile route leading from the moor to Plymouth.
Granite Way An 11-mile, off-road trail between Okehampton and Lydford tracing the route of a former railway line
Princetown & Burrator Mountain Bike Route This challenging, 13-mile moorland circuit sweeps along tracks and
bridleways, taking in Princetown, Sheepstor village and Burrator Reservoir.
Dartmoor Way ( www.dartmoorway.org.uk ) A 90-mile, round-Dartmoor walking and cycling route with an option to
detour across the middle of the moor.
