and sumptuous fabrics and antiques surround ancient beams. De-stress in the hot tub,

jus; three courses £43) or brasserie fare (duck with garlic mushrooms; mains £13 to £22);
it's assured cooking with quality local ingredients whichever you choose. Food is avail-
able from noon to 1.30pm Thursday to Sunday, and 6.30pm to 9pm daily.

rooms here are fragrant with the scent of flowers, and colour schemes range from lemon-
yellow to zingy purple and aquamarine. One even has a sea view. Breakfasts are a feast of

with fresh lime.

markable views, head to this flint-fronted B&B set high on the hills above Sidmouth.
Book the Garden Room for your own terrace plus picture window; restful decor adds to

nomenally creaky revolving door to the Daily Telegraph in the reception rooms, this Re-
gency sea-front hotel provides a glimpse of Sidmouth's golden age. Furnishings are resol-
utely old fashioned and some fittings a little tired, but opt for a sea-front room with bal-
cony, and the views of those crumbling, rosy cliffs are simply superb.
