In-Depth Information
The Quay House Visitor Centre stocks Exe Valley Way leaflets. The trail itself leads
south from Exeter Quay. About 1½ miles downstream, the route reaches the laid-back
Double Locks pub ( www.doublelocks.com ; Canal Banks) , which features real ale and a waterside ter-
race.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' (RSPB) Exminster Marshes Nature Reserve
starts about 2 miles further on. Around 2 miles inside the reserve, the waterside Turf pub
( Click here ) clings to a slither of land, and is an idyllic setting to enjoy good grub and
summer barbecues. From there a rougher trail connects with a path to appealing Powder-
ham Castle ( Click here ) . You can also navigate much of the above route by kayak, making
an enjoyable, non-tidal paddle past pubs.
