7.1 INTRODUCTION
Compared with extensive studies on the formation of carbon clusters by
laser ablation of graphite in the gas phase since the discovery of C 60 [1], little
work has been done on the laser ablation of graphite in the liquid phase,
except for the following pioneering studies [2,3]. Fojtik and Henglein [2]
