parative scale synthesis of C 60 has not been achieved yet by this route,
although Scott et al. recently succeeded in the synthesis of C 60 by high-
temperature pyrolysis of a polycyclic aromatic chlorohydrocarbon [53].
However, Tobe has shown that the polyyne route can be extended to the
size-selective formation of a large fullerene C 78 [54]. Regarding large fullere-
