AsKirabeginstheconversation,Joanmentionsthatsheworksinthetelemarketing depart-
ment.WhenKirafirstasksaboutthesamplereport,Joanindicatesthatshereceivesitevery
Monday morning. So Kira asks her the following question:
“Do you provide the data that's used to generate this report?”
HernextcourseofactiondependsonJoan'sresponse.Kiracanmoveontothenextsample
if Joan's answer is yes; however, it would be a good idea for Kira to ask a follow-up ques-
tion to make certain that Joan's answer is true.
“Doyoupersonallyenterandmaintainthisdataonadailybasis?”
If Joan's answer is still yes, Kira can definitely move on to the next sample.
On the other hand, if Joan's answer to the original question is no, Kira will need to ask a
few follow-up questions. First, she'll ask Joan whether she contributes any data to the re-
port. If she does, Kira will then determine what data Joan specifically submits. Then Kira
will ask whether Joan knows the source of the remaining data.
Tocontinuetheexample,sayJoan'sreplytotheoriginalquestionisnoandthatthefollow-
ing dialogue takes place after her response:
K IRA : “Can you tell me, then, if there is any data that you contribute to the report at
all?”
J OAN : “I do supply the customer's name and phone number.”
