In-Depth Information
Oresund bridge contract was a partnering project where the em-
ployer took an active lead throughout in setting the philosophy of
trust and openness, where the dispute resolution process (in this
case a dispute review board . . . dammit!) was agreed and operated
from the start, and where a 'Musketeer bonus' (one for all, all for
one) was in place from the start. So problems were resolved as they
arose and the focus throughout was able to be on the 'headline' -
the early, profitable, safe and high-quality completion of the bridge.
Successful partnering does not happen by accident. Although it takes
time for a cooperative culture to spread to all parts of the project team,
this can be hastened by training 2 and people's preparedness for change.
It is, after all, common sense and a very human process.
Chapter 9 in a nutshell
Communication is everything.
Good relationships mean good business.
Conflict is good - it creates dialogue.
Understand - value - cooperate.
Blame culture stifles innovation and growth.
Trust is everything.
Mistakes are learning points.
It is a person's intention that is important - we all say things that
we regret.
Forgiveness liberates both the forgiven and the forgiver.
Common sense is a good habit to get into.
