4 GETTING THERE
BY PLANE
Argentina's main international airpor t is
Ezeiza M inistro P istarini (EZE; & 11/
4480-9538 ), located 42km (26 miles) to
the west of Buenos Aires. Allot at least 45
minutes to an hour for trav el between the
airport and the city , mor e in r ush hour .
You will be assessed a depar ture tax of
approximately $24 upon leaving the coun-
try, payable in pesos, dollars, or b y Visa
credit card. For flights fr om Buenos Aires
to M ontevideo (in U ruguay), the depar-
ture tax is $5. P assengers in transit and
children 1 and under are exempt from this
tax. However, visitors are advised to verify
the depar ture tax with their airline or
travel agent, as the exact amount changes
frequently.

to the ex citement of Argentina and its
culture. The female flight attendants tend
to be particularly glamorous, and the staff,
mostly nativ es of Argentina, can offer
excellent advice for y ou to use once y ou
are on the gr ound. Argentine wine is fr ee
and liberally served in coach and all classes.

Domestic airlines and flights to Uruguay

north, along the river from downtown.
The easiest way to trav el Argentina 's
vast distances is b y air, though flights ar e
expensive and for eigners are charged sub-
stantially mor e than locals. Aerolíneas
Argentinas (see above) connects most cit-
ies and tourist destinations in Argentina,
including Cór doba, J ujuy, I guazú, S alta,

BY BUS
The Estación Terminal de Omnibus, Av.
Ramos M ejía 1680 ( & 11/4310-0700 ),
located near Retiro Station, serves all long-
distance buses. You would use this station
when connecting to other par ts of Argen-
tina, or by long-distance coach from other
countries. D ue to the high cost of air
,
especially on domestic flights.
