plus is the location, which yields sweeping views of the town and the Beagle Channel. It's
at least 3km (1 3 / 4 miles) from downtown, however, so you'll need to take a cab , hike, or
use one of the hotel's summer-only transfer shuttles. The sumptuous lounge stretches the
length of the building; here you'll find a clubby bar, formal restaurant, and fireside sitting
area. The rooms are decorated with rich tapestries, upholstered walls, and big and bright
bathrooms. A glass-enclosed walkway leads to an outstanding spa, swimming pool, and
an indoor squash court; the hotel also offers automatic membership at the local golf club.
The owner of Las Hayas promotes an air of genteel exclusivity, making the hotel less than
entirely suitable for childr en. Luis Martial, the gourmet r estaurant on-site, changes its
menu weekly but specializes in black hake and king crab dishes. B reakfasts are standard,
and the public space could use a fr eshening up. Still, rooms are large and bright, if not
modern and deluxe.

Hotel Lennox The hippest lodging in town, this hotel exudes style and modernity. In
the lobby, floor lighting illuminates tall, mirr ored walls, punctuated b y dark-rock tiles
and light-wood paneling. Modish sofas, in moody tones of black and gray, look out onto
busy Avenida San Martín. O n the thir d floor, a comfor table and spacious communal
room houses mor e sofas and a widescr een TV. The dining r oom has elegant, urbane
furnishings in r ed and br own. Here you can enjo y a continental br eakfast while taking
in fantastic vie ws of the bay. Rooms are small but adequate, and some of the spar kling
bathrooms have a Jacuzzi. Be sure to ask for a room at the back facing the bay. The street
side can be noisy, and the inward facing rooms (facing a tiny, somewhat overstated “Zen
garden”) can lack priv acy. I n general, staff members ar e v ery friendly, and the hotel 's
contemporary feel is very refreshing and reassuring. Still, they've tripled the price over the
past few years, and service hasn't improved accordingly.

Hotel Los Yámanas Inspired by the lifestyle of the Yamana people who used to rule
this fine land, you may be inspired to hop aboard a replicated native canoe in the hotel's
front garden. The Beagle Channel, after all, is right in front of you (if canoeing's not your
thing, the hotel also o wns the company that r uns catamaran cr uises on the channel).
Inside, the decor is rustic, with plenty of mustard yellows and exposed rafters. All rooms
have lovely channel views. Service is friendly, kind, and professional, if a bit slo w. Walls
are thin. There is a new spa and gym being completed out back amid a lo vely forest.
