WHERE TO STAY & DINE
Junín de los Andes has a fe w lodges that specializ e in fly-fishing, such as the Hostería
de Chimehuín, S uarez and A venida 21 de M ayo, on the shor e of the Chimehuín
River ( & 02972/491132; $12/£8.20 double). A ccommodations ar e basic, including
rooms with balconies and apartments, but the atmosphere is friendly and homey, and it
has a good br eakfast. An ex cellent fly-fishing lodge is the San Huberto Lodge, on a
picturesque 20km (13-mile) str etch of the M alleo Riv er ( & 02972/491238; www.
sanhubertolodge.com.ar), which charges $185 to $280 (£125-£189) for a double,
including all meals. The San Humberto consists of six chalets with twin beds, units that
are separate fr om an enormous, r ustic lodge. The restaurant is excellent, and so ar e the
fishing guides. R un b y a B ritish expat, the similarly r ural Estancia H uechahue (no
phone; www.huechahue.com) is a working cattle ranch open to visitors for daylong and
overnight horseback trips. Their eight-r oom main house doubles as a charming inn.
Rates are $356 (£240) per guest per night. They also hav e interesting multiday horse-
back-riding expeditions that cr oss the Andes. Cerro los Pinos, Brown 420 ( & 02972/
427207 ), is a charming family ranch with close access to the Chimehuín River. Doubles
are $12 to $28 (£8.20-£19); they'll arrange a fishing guide for guests. Dining options are
limited here; tr y the Ruca Hueney, Milanesio 641 ( & 02972/491113 ), which ser ves
pasta dishes, venison and, of course, trout.
