Inexpensive
Patanuk Guesthouse With a hostel vibe and an awesome location right on the lake,
the doubles and twins with priv ate bathrooms here are good value. The style is loftlike,
with an industrial design and local ar t on display. The shared rooms have a handful of
bunk beds and the best vie ws. Privates hav e a v ery simple bathr oom with a stand-up
shower. In the evenings, the garden opens up into a funky bar . There's a tiny computer
squeezed in by the office that guests can use. I f all you want is a fun, safe place to spend
the night (and having your own bathroom is key), then this is a good choice.

Perikos remains the friendly classic. I t's a great choice for any trav eler on a budget who
wants to meet ne w friends, get off the beaten path, and explor e independently. Perikos
has 10 rooms: four doubles, two triples, two that sleep two to four people, and two that
sleep six. Their private doubles are a great deal, with their own bathrooms. Breakfast and
use of the kitchen is included in the price. On Friday nights, the hostel organizes a typi-

Outside the City Center, on the Road
to the Llao Llao Peninsula
Very Expensive
El Casco Art Hotel Exclusive and elegant, this upscale inn midway betw een
Bariloche and the Llao Llao is a spectacular place, what all hotel reviewers hunt for. It has
remarkable services and amenities for an inn with only 33 rooms, not to mention a lovely
lakeside setting. As the name suggests, ther e is highbr ow ar twork thr oughout—320
outstanding paintings and sculptur es b y some of the most impor tant names in Latin
American art to be exact. The hotel is just small enough to feel intimate. The rooms are
hard to beat, both for their siz e (bathr ooms ar e practically palatial) and their tasteful
style. Plush marble bathrooms are slick and have separated tubs and shower. The spa and
pool could be considered small, but don't forget, there are only 33 rooms here. The res-
taurant offers high-art inspired gourmet food. For all the pluses, there is a high price. But
if ex cellent quality is y our priority, and money isn 't such a concern, this is a superb
choice.
