run by a local family. The owners recently converted this old summer home into a lovely
inn. And since they hav e young kids of their o wn, they're happy to shar e the backyar d
pool, tennis cour t, and swing set with visiting y oungsters, while the par ents enjoy the
gym or the wine cellar. Although prices have risen extensively, it's still a great option for
families.

friendly, and the specialty her e is fresh, local food, ser ved throughout the day. The “ave
palta” chicken and av ocado sandwich is fantastic; it 's a r elief if all y ou want is a small
meal. Other sandwiches, including a classic r oast beef
lomo,

ASIAN This restaurant is definitely exotic; as much a fresh face in these par ts
as is its owner, Karma Apo Tsang who came to Mendoza to act in the film
Seven Years in
Tibet
and never left. The vibe is ashram cool, and the food, most of it steam-cooked and
colorful, is r efreshingly spicy for Argentina. Look for beef dumplings, H ong Kong ribs
and chicken, pork or lamb curry.

ITALIAN This traditional I talian cantina ser ves outstanding
homemade pastas and pizzas on rustic northern Italian crusts. Low-key and unassuming,
it's a place in which to mingle with the locals and to indulge. The pumpkin-stuffed
ravioli with mushr oom sauce is delicious. Also wor th trying are the carr ot pappardelle
and the tortellini with ricotta, ham, and walnuts.

An authentic mix of traditional rural life and upscale modern infrastructure characterizes
the hear t of Chacras, founded in 1600.

on S unday afternoons. The whitewashed neocolonial
parish church, Our Lady of P erpetual Help, faces the plaza. Very good r estaurants are
within a few blocks from the center (see above).
