CHACRAS DE CORIA
14km (8

miles) S of Mendoza
Many travelers use this lovely, leafy suburb of Mendoza as a base for trips to the r egion.
And it's easy to see why: It's convenient to both the city center (20 min. away) and to the
bodegas
area; it has a rich heritage, great restaurants, and a handful of excellent inns; and
it's fun and relaxing. This is my first choice for those looking to base their visit away fom
the hustle of downtown Mendoza.
Getting There
Chacras is accessible via local bus no . 10, which stops on La Rioja S treet in downtown
Mendoza, or via taxi, which is $30 to $35 (£20-£24) fr om downtown. It is feasible to
tour the area on a day outing from the city, combining a few
bodegas
and a stroll through
the town center—either via the bus, with a driv er, in a r ented car, or on an organiz ed
tour. If you are driving, take the Corr edor del O este south of M endoza and follo w the
signs into the heart of town.
Getting Around
Once you're in Chacras, y ou can walk to vir tually everywhere, including some
bodegas
and some great restaurants.
Where to Stay
Casa Glebinias
Just down the street from Borravino (see belo w), this quiet inn is a
gardener's delight, nestled amid what may be Chacras's greatest botanical display. Rooms
are actually separate houses, each with lo vely views of the gar den outside each windo w.
Interiors are decorated with an eclectic mix of tr easures in a wide range of styles, fr om
Art Deco mirrors and antique window frames, to natural history sketches. All units have
a kitchenette, and the staff brings br eakfast to y our door each morning. This is not a
good choice for those who don't like dogs.

Posada Borravino
Value
This stylish and affor dable option is modern, y et with a
rustic feel. I n an old home on a v ery quiet str eet, it's only a fe w blocks fr om the to wn
square. Interiors are all natural colors, mainly v arious shades of beige. Quarters are a bit
tight; the backyard pool is minuscule. B ut the staff is friendly enough and the common
space—which includes a rotating art exhibit—is inviting.
