La Cumbre has the usual v ariety of parrillas, and many specializ e in kid goat, a local
delicacy. La Casona del Toboso, Belgrano 349 ( & 354/845-1436 ), is one such place,
with a nice cottage-house feel and fr esh trout on the menu.
La Fontana INTERNATIONAL La Fontana is a bright, cheer ful restaurant with
excellent food and ser vice. As y ou wait for y our or der, the waitr ess brings a thirst-
quenching aperitif of white wine and fruit juice, accompanied by delicious hors d'oeuvres
of cheese and sweet corn in tiny cupcakes. The bread is so fresh, it is hot, and one variety
comes with melted cheese. The menu is a r efreshingly eclectic mix, including a z esty
Waldorf salad, parrilla, homemade pasta, and seafood, including octopus and paella.
While this white-walled corner r estaurant might have a few too many tables, the atmo-
sphere is very welcoming, the toilets immaculate, and the prices v ery reasonable.

35km (21 miles) SW of Córdoba
Calamuchita Valley, south of Córdoba, is a booming agricultural z one dotted with large
reservoirs. Alta G racia is one of the main to wns, situated in the foothills of the S ierra
Chica, 35km (21 miles) south of Cór doba. It is famous for its J esuit-built town center
(p. 248), but its commer cial center is not so pr etty. Once a popular haunt for w ealthy
Porteños escaping the summer heat, it still boasts some impr essive summer villas in the
residential zone. The town itself is a good base for hiking, fishing, or sev eral lazy rounds
of golf.
ESSENTIALS
GETTING THERE The bus station (no phone) is located at C. P aravachasca and
Nieto. Every 15 minutes, buses travel from Córdoba. The journey takes 1 hour and costs
$2 (£1.35). Sarmiento ( & 351/425-5541) and Sierras de C alamuchita ( & 351/422-
6080) are two companies wor th investigating. The latter r uns ser vice far ther south to
Villa General Belgrano.
VISITOR INFORMATION The tourist office is located at the clock tower, Calle Padre
Vieryra and Calle Del Molino ( & 354/742-8128; www.altagracia.gov.ar). It's open daily
from 8am until 9pm.
WHAT TO SEE & DO
Alta Gracia's main attraction is the J esuit estancia at its center (p . 248). Although the
