Casa Tomada Finds ARGENTINE A warren of stalls and tiny stores have popped
up in a large, rickety building on A chaval Rodriguez. If you follow the chessboard floor
tiles right to the back, the building opens up into a large cour tyard that is packed with
laughing locals most nights of the w eek. Here amid the bar e brick walls and on a series
of worn wooden decks, y ou'll find the popular Casa Tomada, a boister ous bar with a
student clientele. A stage at the back holds the occasional liv e performance, and, if y ou
wander too far, you'll find y ourself in another bar called Alfonsina that spills out onto
Belgrano Street, on the other side of the block. The whole complex has a liv ely under-
ground feel and is perfect as a startup to a lengthy night on the tiles.
