and gorgeous pool. The decor is elegant and comfortable, with flower-bedecked walls and

furniture and silver-framed mirrors. Bathrooms are startling white, with immaculate fit-
tings. The friendly owners ensure guests are more than occupied with polo demonstra-
tions, gaucho outings, and feastlike picnics beneath the tr ees. There are excellent wine
tasting sessions in the well-stocked and atmospheric cellar, or you can just join the hum-
mingbirds on the patio and enjoy this laid-back, rural paradise.

cuts of beef in the city , with entrees from $10 (£6.80). The best Italian restaurant is La
Mamma, at Santa Rosa and La Cañada ( & 351/421-2212 ), with homemade pastas, veal
scaloppini, and an incredible lasagna (main dishes cost on average $17/£12). La Nieta e'
la Pancha, on Belgrano 783 ( & 351/468-1920 ), offers typical food such as locro, humi-
tas, and homemade pastas and empanadas, and here you can also try the ubiquitous mate
tea so loved by locals. Meals cost around $10 (£6.80).

branches; in Parque Sarmiento and Paseo del B uen Pastor. Its air-conditioned interiors
are modern and attractiv e, and the menu offers the traditional-style asado with nev er-
ending dishes of delicious beef . The bathrooms are immaculate—down to the ice cubes
in the urinals.
