La Bamba
This is one of the most gorgeous and romantic
estancias
near Bue-
nos Aires. The original building opened in 1830 as a stagecoach stop along what had
once been the old Camino R eal, linking B uenos Aires with other colonial cities. The
buildings are Pompeian red with white trim, contrasting with the rich gr een landscape.
The Argentine movie
Camila,
about a forbidden romance in the 1840s, was filmed here
and nominated for B est Foreign Film in the 1984 A cademy Awards. If you are honey-
mooning in Argentina, this place is ideal—especially the isolatedTorre Room in the main
house, on the thir d floor, in what had been a lookout to wer with windo ws on all sides
opening onto the expansive Pampas. Swimming, horseback riding, carriage riding, tr ek-
king, and other activities are all available. The 150-hectare (371-acre) property has cows,
soy, and wheat fields. The
