Los Abuelos Alberto Cesar R eyes is y our grandfather at this pr operty overlooking
Parque San Martín and the Río Ar eco—the hotel's name literally means the grandpar-
ents. The hotel is basic, with a lot of white metal and F ormica furnishings in the tile-
floored r oom. The beds ar e co vered with sea-foam gr een chenille bedspr eads. S ome
bathrooms are tub/shower combinations, while others are only showers. Every room has
newly installed air conditioners along with ceiling fans. An abo veground pool is sur-
rounded by a small deck in the back of the pr operty, where the parking lot is located. A
nice warm touch is a gas fireplace in the front lobby, which is surrounded by simple pine
chairs and tables where breakfast is served.

Almacén de R amos G erelos AR GENTINE/SPANISH/PARRILLA This r estau-
rant, housed in a turn-of-the-20th-century building, is one of the best-known restaurants
in San Antonio de Areco. It has a parrilla and international items on the menu, and also
offers a br oad selection of paellas. I ts interior, with rich wooden details, will take y ou
back in time.

Corner Pizza ARGENTINE/INTERNATIONAL This simple place o verlooks the
Parque San Martín and the Río Ar eco. You'll find a selection of fast-food items on the
menu, from hot dogs and hamburgers to pizza. M any people just come her e to down a
beer and look at the par k. It's ideal if you're on a budget.

La Esquina de Mer ti P ARRILLA/ARGENTINE This r estaurant has an old-
fashioned feel to it, with exposed brick walls, an ancient copper coffeemaker on the bar ,
wooden tables o verlaid with black-and-white-checker ed tablecloths, and shelv es full of
apothecary jars. But it's all a trick: La Esquina de Merti opened in late 2005, in the loca-
tion of an old almacén, or Argentine general stor e. In any case, the food, concentrating
on the beef the region is famous for, is great. You'll find a beef and chicken parrilla, and
a selection of pastas and empanadas. The house specialty is mollejas with cream, lemon,
and champagne ( mollejas are the softly grilled, melt-in-y our-mouth pancreas or thymus
