Lobo URUGUAYAN/FRENCH/INTERNATIONAL This restaurant is a mix of
old and new, formal and casual. Head chef Nicolas Diaz Ibarguren previously worked at
the Alvear Palace in Buenos Aires, and offers some of the most creative dishes in Colonia,
such as carpaccio, leek-and-bacon ravioli, and gourmet chivitos at surprisingly reasonable
prices. There's live music on weekends.

spots in Colonia, this location ser ves fine steaks and Uruguayan cuisine. It's located in a

COLONIA AFTER DARK
Believe it or not, ther e is nightlife in Colonia, whether it 's locals partying after work, or
tourists staying in the local posadas and the surrounding spa-hotels. Bar life begins at 10
or 11pm, but for serious dancing, expect things to get star ted after 1am. With its white
leather lounges and blue-neon backlit bar, Mar Dulce Resto Pub, at Virrey Cevallo 232
and General Flores ( & 098/500898 [cell]), looks like it was plucked from Miami Beach,
and offers live music, DJs, and dancing. Patrimonio, at Calle de San Jose 111, at España
( & 099/187911 [cell]; www.patrimonioloungebar.com), offers live rock and jazz, and a
spectacular back patio that cascades over the Río de La Plata. Tresquarto at Av. Méndez
295 ( & 052/29664 or 099/523043 [cell]; www.trescuarto.com), is the to wn's mega-
disco, a four-level venue with three different kinds of music, hence the name. I t's open
only on Fridays and Saturdays.

Montevideo, the southernmost capital on the continent, along with its suburbs, is home
