Grupo de Teatro Catalinas Sur This theater company pr esents outdoor w eekend
performances in La Boca. I t's in S panish, but it 's mostly comedy, and both adults and

Julio Bocca's Ballet A rgentino Julio Bocca is Argentina 's gr eatest ballet
and dance star . M any of his per formances combine tango mo vements with classical
dance, creating a style uniquely his own, and uniquely Argentine. He runs a studio in the
Centro Cultural de Borges for classical dance and ballet performances, as well as another
performance space in Teatro Maipo on Calle Esmeralda, offering a range of ev ents from
dance to comedy plays. Mr. Bocca himself has officially retired, but even without him on
stage, his Ballet Argentino troupe is a must-see for lo vers of ballet and dance, especially
the performances featuring Claudia F igaredo and H ernan Piquin. In the Centro Cultural

Luna Park Once the home of international bo xing matches, the L una is the largest
indoor stadium in Argentina, hosting some of the biggest sho ws and concerts in Buenos
Aires. Many of these are classical music concerts, and the National Symphonic Orchestra
often plays her e. Though they had actually met pr eviously, legend has it that a 1944
fundraiser here, for the victims of the S an Juan earthquake, was wher e Juan Perón first
met a v ery young actress named E va Duarte, changing Argentine histor y forever. The
song “On This Night of a Thousand Stars” in the musical commemorates this event. Av.

Silvia Freire, Espacio de Arte y Cultura A little religious, a little New Age-y, this
Palermo institution sells av ant-garde art and hosts theater pr esentations. Silvia Freire is
considered a bit of an eccentric mystic, and she is inter esting to meet if she happens to
be in the building when you arrive. Store hours: Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 3pm.

Teatro Coliseo This Recoleta theater puts on classical music pr oductions. Marcelo T.

Teatro Colón (Colón Theater) Moments A more detailed description of this
venue appears in “Other Attractions,” earlier in this chapter. The building itself is a major
tourist stop, in addition to being a per formance space. The building is under ongoing
renovations which have been seriously delay ed and are likely not to be completed until
2010. If you're lucky enough to be trav eling when the work is complete, don't miss this
venue: The memor y of an opera or musical in the Teatro Colón will last a lifetime.

Teatro Municipal G eneral S an Mar tín This enter tainment complex has thr ee
theaters staging drama, comedy , ballet, music, and childr en's plays. The lobby in itself ,
which often hosts exhibitions of photography and ar t, is worth a special visit during the
daytime. The theater has also absorbed many pr oductions that would hav e ordinarily
