of the mixture. In intensive agriculture, region markets drive variety choice, not disease
resistance traits. Variety mixtures offer an opportunity to utilise market-leading varieties
whilst incorporating disease-reducing principles of simply deploying heterogeneity, and
specifi cally including varieties with traits which maximise the effect.
