FAQs
Gage asks you to create a fl owchart using the outline that you created. You can create
the fl owchart using fl owcharting software or sketch it using pen and paper.
To create a flowchart for the NextBest Fest site:
1. Draw a square at the top of the page and label it Home .
2. Draw squares in a horizontal row below the Home Page square for each of the
main categories of your outline, and label each square with one category.
3. Draw a line from each main category page to the home page to connect them.
4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to add the subcategory pages below the category pages.
Continue until all of the information from your outline is represented in the
flowchart.
5. Create a key for your flowchart by drawing and labeling the shapes you used.
6. Compare your flowchart with the flowchart shown in Figure 2-7 that Gage created.
Gathering and Organizing Information
The next step in the process of creating information architecture is to gather and organize
all possible sources of information. The materials that you collect will be used to create
the page content for the site. It is best to err on the side of excess at this stage because
the more raw materials you have to work with, the better job you can do when you actu-
ally start to create content.
Based on the site goals, the market research, the information outline, and the fl ow-
chart, you and Gage need information about the following:
Gathering information is
often like detective work;
use your instincts, follow
leads, do research, and
talk to others to gather
as much information as
you can.
• The fest and the production company.
• The lineup and the bands.
• The schedule.
• Ticket prices and purchasing information.
You will fi nd this information in a variety of places. Much of the information you
need can be found in promotional materials such as brochures, fl iers, press releases,
