In-Depth Information
To create a list of goals and a statement of purpose for the new
NextBest Fest site:
1. Write down at least 20 possible site goals.
2. Review the list to be sure that all statements are in active voice and use
action verbs.
3. Prioritize the goals in order of importance.
4. Review your list, combining goals, if possible, and reprioritizing them, if
necessary.
5. Review the top five goals. Think about what you want to accomplish with the site,
and make sure that your list of goals will help achieve a successful site.
6. Write a one-sentence statement of purpose based on your final list of goals.
Gage created a list of goals for the new NextBest Fest site, and then he prioritized
and combined them. From his final list of goals, he developed a statement of
purpose.
7. Compare your goals and statement of purpose with Gage's shown in Figure 2-1.

Statement of purpose
With this Web site, we will promote the NextBest Fest, provide information about the festival and
the participating bands to the public and the press, promote the sale of three-day passes, and
strive to increase brand recognition as well as attendance.
You will use the site goals to make decisions about the site organization and structure.
The primary goal is to increase festival attendance, compelling people to attend NextBest
Fest. The secondary goal is to increase brand identity and recognition—in other words,
to make people aware of the NextBest Fest and to associate it with rock 'n' roll tribute
bands. The site will be organized to create a buzz about attending the fest and to empha-
size the NextBest Fest name and logo. The home page will include information about the
fest, including how to purchase three-day passes, and band information. The fest logo will
appear at the top of every page, and the site navigation will be organized so that “fest
information” and “ticket information” categories are included in the top level of the site.
The priority of the goals helps to determine the site's layout. If the fi rst and fourth goals
were switched, for example, making the primary goal to promote bands that play at the
fest, the site structure might be organized differently. The band information could appear
above the fest information. The band logos could appear at the top of all of the pages
