empty database is available on your remote server, you will use the administrative tools
your host provides to:
• Log in to the database management interface (use the information and steps provided
by your ISP or IT department).
• Run the statements that are provided as SQL in the nbf_db.sql fi le located in the
Tutorial.09\Tutorial folder included with your Data Files. (The steps will vary depending
on the system your ISP or IT department uses.) Running the statements will create the
database that will be used in this tutorial by fi lling the empty database on the remote
server with the structure and content that the NextBest Fest technical team provided.
The author's ISP provided the following steps to log in to the empty database and
run the nbf_db.sql fi le using phpMyAdmin as the database management interface.
phpMyAdmin is the most frequently used database management interface for MySQL
databases. If your ISP or IT department uses a different interface or if the interface is con-
fi gured differently, your steps will differ slightly; contact your ISP or IT department for the
exact steps you should follow. If your instructor has already created the database for you,
read the following steps, and then continue working in the “Connecting a Web Site to a
Database” section on page XX.
To log in to the database management interface and run the SQL file:

Open a browser window, type the URL provided by your ISP or IT department
in the Address bar, and then press the
Enter
key. A page or dialog box opens in
which you enter login information.

Type the username and password information provided by your ISP or IT depart-
ment in the appropriate boxes, and then click the
OK
button. The default page of
the database management interface that your ISP or IT department uses appears
in the browser window. Figure 9-3 shows the default page for the phpMyAdmin
database management interface.
