SESSION 8.3 VISUAL OVERVIEW
Each type is named to
reflect the target device
(also referred to as the
user agent) on which the
relevant properties are
most likely to be used.
Users can view Web
page on a variety of
media platforms,
including computer
screens, handheld
devices, and assistive
devices, or they may
view a printed version
of the page.
The Style Rendering toolbar enables
you to view the page in Design view,
displaying only the styles that will
be used by a specific media type.
Designers use CSS to
style and lay out
pages, and use a media
type attribute to
specify how the
document is presented
on different media.
Many Web sites use alternate
print styles or alternate print
style sheets to customize the
disp lay of pages for print.
The media attribute
lets you create
separate style sheets
for a site that specify
how the pages display
on different types of
media.
Most computers use
the screen media type
and most printers
recognize the print
media type. Because of
this, these media types
are most frequently
used by designers.
