In-Depth Information
Dreamweaver includes eight preset workspace confi gurations (App Developer, App
Developer Plus, Classic, Coder, Coder Plus, Designer, Compact, or Dual Screen) or
you can create your own. Each confi guration optimizes the panels display to help you
focus on working in a different way. For example, the Coder confi guration optimizes the
workspace for people who are mostly writing code and the App Developer confi guration
optimizes the workspace for people who are creating interactive online Web applications
such as e-commerce shopping carts.
Dreamweaver opens in the same workspace confi guration it was in when it was
closed. So, depending on the working method of the person who last used the computer,
Dreamweaver might open in any of the preset workspace confi gurations or it might open
to a custom confi guration if the previous user moved a panel to a new location.
In these tutorials, you will use the Designer confi guration for the Dreamweaver
workspace. At the beginning of each tutorial, you will reset Dreamweaver to the default
Designer confi guration to ensure that your screen matches the fi gures in these tutorials.
As you become more profi cient with Dreamweaver, you might fi nd that you prefer one of
the other workspace confi gurations.
To start Dreamweaver and select the Designer workspace configuration:
1. Click the Start button on the taskbar, click All Programs , click Adobe or
Adobe Design Premium CS5 , and then click Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 .

Trouble? If you do not see the Adobe or Adobe Design Premium CS5 folder,

menu, and then click Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 in the search results. If you still
can't find Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, ask your instructor or technical support per-
son for help.
Trouble? If this is the first time Dreamweaver is started on this computer, the
Default Editor dialog box opens to show the file types for which Dreamweaver will
be the default editor. Click the OK button.
Trouble? If a dialog box opens stating that the local root folder, Dreamweaver,
does not exist, click the Cancel button.
2. On the Application bar, click the Workspace Switcher button to display the list
of default configurations, and then click Designer , if necessary. The workspace
changes to the Designer configuration.
3. On the Application bar, click the Workspace Switcher button, and then click

the figures.
