Adding and Deleting Columns and Rows
As you work, you might fi nd you need more or fewer columns and rows in a table. To
insert a column, you select a cell or a column and use the Insert Column command. A
new column of the same width as the selected cell or column is inserted to the left of the
selection. To insert a row, you select a cell or a row and use the Insert Row command.
The new row is added above the selected cell or row. You can also add a new row at the
end of the table by clicking in the last cell of the table and pressing the Tab key. You can
add multiple columns or rows by using the Insert Rows or Columns command; when you
click this command, a dialog box opens and you set the number of columns or rows you
want to insert and where you want to insert them relative to the selection.
If you need to remove extra columns or rows, you can select the column or row and
then use the Delete Column or Delete Row command. Be aware that all of the content
in that column or row is also deleted. You can also press the Delete key to remove a
selected column or row and all of its content.
Using CSS to Format a Table
The correct way to format tables is with CSS styles. Although some formatting options are
available in the Property inspector when table elements are selected, these table format-
ting options are deprecated in the current version of XHTML. The proper way to format
tables is by creating a series of CSS styles and applying those styles to the table elements.
You can apply styles to the entire table, rows, columns, cells, and even the table content.
Gage asks you to create two row styles for the table. You will apply these styles to
alternating rows of the table.
