delimited format (such as comma, tab, semicolon, colon, or other delimited format) and
then import the data into the table. Comma-delimited format inserts commas between
pieces of data to indicate how data should be divided into table cells. Most spreadsheet
programs and programs that create tables will let you save the tabular data in comma-
delimited (.csv) format, but, if you have Microsoft Excel, this is not necessary. You can
import the contents of an Excel worksheet directly into a table in Dreamweaver.
The NextBest Fest schedules are stored in Excel worksheets. Gage wants you to import
the satellite_schedule.xls into the table you created on the schedule.html page.
To enter and import text into the schedule table:
1. Click in the upper-left cell in the table, type satellite stage schedule , and then
press the Tab key. The text you typed is entered in the first cell in the table, and
the active cell is the second cell in the first row.
You could continue to type all of the tour dates information, but it's faster to
import the data from the Microsoft Excel file.
2. Click in the upper-left cell in the table, press and hold the Shift key as you click in
the lower-right cell, and then release the Shift key. All of the cells in the table are
selected.
Selecting all the cells in a table is different from selecting the table itself. You
need to select the table in which you want to import data.
3. Point to the upper-left border of the table until the pointer changes to
, and
then click the table border. The table is selected.
You'll import the tabular data into the selected cells.
4. On the Application bar, click File , point to Import , and then click Excel
Document . The Import Excel Document dialog box opens.
To import tabular data, you
can also click the Import
Tabular Data button in the
Data category of the Insert
panel or click Insert on the
Application bar, point to
Table Objects, and click
Import Tabular Data.
5. Navigate to the Tutorial.05\Tutorial folder included with your Data Files, and
then double-click the satellite_schedule.xlsx file.
The data in the Excel worksheet is imported into the table and the table width
changes to accommodate the content. See Figure 5-38.
