Outdoor Activities
Montenegro's diverse landscape lends itself to so much more than simply lazing
on the beach. Five national parks beckon, taunting nature buffs and adrenaline
addicts with all of the myriad deeds that such mighty mountains, rivers and
lakes can inspire. And when nature calls, why resist?
Need to Know
When to Go
The best time for a well-rounded roster of adventures is May and early June, when the melting ice adds thrills to a
rafting trip and the wildflowers are bursting into bloom.
Sea and air temperatures are highest in July and August but you'll be battling the crowds on the beaches and there
are sometimes wildfires during particularly hot summers. Otherwise, it's a good time to be in the mountains.
September and October are also good options, especially if you like your hikes accompanied by a blazing back-
drop of autumn colour. This is also when the excellent Adventure Race Montenegro ( Click here ) is held.
Ski-buffs should head north between January and March.
What to Pack
You'll need a pair of sturdy hiking boots and you should consider packing a compass, first aid kit and a torch
(flashlight). If you're a serious rock-climber or mountaineer, you're best to bring any specialist gear you might
need with you.
