PRACTICALITIES
» Print Media: Vijesti (The News), Dan (The Day) and Pobjeda (Victory) are all daily newspapers. Monitor, a
weekly news magazine, joins local-language versions of international titles on the news-stands.
» Radio & Television: RTCG (Radio TV Montenegro) is the state broadcaster, with two radio stations and three
TV channels. In total there are 11 more-or-less national TV channels and six regional channels. There are dozens
of independent radio stations broadcasting around the country.
» Weights & Measures: the metric system is used.
Accommodation
Hotels and private accommodation (rooms and apartments for rent) form the bulk of the sleeping options, although hos-
tels have been popping up in the more touristy areas in recent years. Camping grounds operate in summer and some of
the mountainous areas have cabin accommodation in 'eco villages' or mountain huts.
In the peak summer season, some places require minimum stays (three days to a week). Many establishments on the
coast, even some of the established hotels, close during winter.
Hotel tariffs usually include breakfast, towels, basic toiletries and (unless otherwise mentioned in the reviews) en
suites. Most midrange rooms will also have a TV set, a fridge and air conditioning (klima) - except in the mountains
where cooling isn't necessary and heaters are provided in winter. Top-end establishments will usually have direct-dial
telephone access, minibars and, in the very best establishments, fluffy robes, slippers, safes, swimming pools, health spas
and 24-hour room service. Free wireless internet connection is becoming the norm, although often the signal is only
available in certain parts of the building.
We've included websites in our reviews where they're available, and, failing that, email addresses. Be warned that
many Montenegrin businesses are not adept at keeping their websites up to date or replying to emails.
If you don't mind paying a commission in order to save yourself some hassle, specialist travel agencies will arrange
things on your behalf. Try Black Mountain (

ventures MAP (

local agencies.
Camping & Caravan Parks
Facilities at camping grounds tend to be basic, often with squat toilets and limited water. Some national parks have
cabin-style accommodation but most camping grounds don't. Charges are a combination of a nightly rate per vehicle,
size of tent, number (and age) of guests and whether you require power or not. Camping grounds are most common
along the coast (including the Bay of Kotor) and near Žabljak.
During summer, when shepherds in the mountainous areas take their flocks to the higher meadows, you can ask per-
mission to pitch your tent next to one of their traditional katun dwellings.
