In-Depth Information
In the Old Town, you can swim below the two Buža bars, on the outside of the city
walls. Steps help swimmers get in and out, and sunbathers can make use of a cemented
space between the rocks.
On the west side of the city, beaches include the pebbly
Šulići
and the rocky
Danče
. The
nicest beach that's walkable from the old town is below Hotel Bellevue, where you'll
find a sheltered cove backed by high cliffs (which cast a shadow over its pebbled shore
by late afternoon).

Sleeping
Dubrovnik is the most expensive city in Croatia. Lots of midrange hotels are in Lapad,
4km west of the centre, which has regular buses to the Old Town. Book all accommoda-
tion well in advance, especially in the summer season.
Private accommodation is a good alternative, but beware the scramble of owners at the
bus station and ferry terminal. Try to pin down the location in advance if you want to be
able to walk to the Old Town. Note that if you stay in unlicensed accommodation you are
unprotected in case of a problem; all registered places should have a blue
sobe
(rooms
available) sign. In high season, expect to pay from 300KN for a double room, or from
500KN for an apartment.
