have stone walls more than a metre thick, capped by a wooden storey with lovely jutting
balconies.
The pier extending over the lake is a good spot to swim from, or you can hire paddle
boats (€2 per hour) or kayaks (€1 per hour) nearby.
Sleeping & Eating
Good accommodation and eating options are thin on the ground. The best options are
outside of the town.
Aqua

shore near the beginning of the road to Gusinje, this complex has simple free-standing
bungalows (sleeping up to four people) and a handful of rooms with three single beds.
It's a simple set-up but reasonably comfortable. Upstairs, the restaurant offers lake views
to accompany pizza, pasta, salad, fish and meat dishes.

Lake Views
( 068-591 044; campsite/dm €5/8) Set in a field by the lake on the approach to Plav, this is a
lovely spot to pitch a tent. The squat toilets are less lovely, however. There is also a hand-
ful of hostel-like rooms below the associated restaurant.
CAMPGROUND
Komnenovo Etno-Selo
( 051-255 350; www.kuladamjanova.com ; Vojno Selo bb; s/d €39/54) Located on the south shore of the
lake (reached by the back road from Plav), this large complex conjures up an 'ethno' am-
bience with its wood and stone construction. The theme continues with the traditional
specialities served in the restaurant (breakfast is included in the room rates). Activities on
offer include fishing, horse riding and guided mountain expeditions.

Plav Tourist Office ( 063-231 428; 8am-4pm Mon-Fri, 9am-3pm Sat) They don't speak much Eng-
lish but the staff here are friendly and surprisingly helpful, considering. They stock the
Prokletije Hiking & Biking map (€4, scale 1:50,000), which outlines on its reverse 10
bike paths and 15 hiking tracks.
