GOOGLE MAP (actually, it's now more of a tap) with an Arabic inscription, a crescent moon
and flowers carved into the stone.
Mosques
One of Ulcinj's most distinctive features is its many mosques. Most are fairly simple
structures and they're generally more interesting from the outside than inside. An excep-
tion is the Sailor's Mosque MAP GOOGLE MAP (Džamija Pomoraca; Detarët e Ulqinit bb) , which has in-
teresting interior frescoes. This imposing stone structure, right on the waterfront, was
completed in 2012, replacing a mosque which predated the Ottomans, which was des-
troyed in 1931.
Kryepazarit Mosque MAP GOOGLE MAP (Džamija Vrhpazara; Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu bb) was built in
1749 at the intersection of the main streets but was substantially rebuilt following the
1979 earthquake; its name means 'Top of the Market'. Within the same block but set
back slightly from the road is the 1728 Mezjah Mosque MAP

Lamit Mosque MAP GOOGLE MAP (Džamija Ljamit; Kadi Hysen Mujali bb) dates from 1689 but was
substantially rebuilt after the 1979 earthquake. The ceiling has interesting green-painted
geometric wood panelling. Dating from 1719, Pasha's Mosque MAP GOOGLE MAP (Pašina džam-
ija; Buda Tomovića bb) is an elegant complex with a hammam (Turkish bathhouse) attached.
St Nicholas' Cathedral
MAP GOOGLE MAP
(Saborna crkva Sv Nikole; Buda Tomovića bb) Set amongst a picturesque grove of gnarled olive
trees below the Upper Gate is this Orthodox cathedral. It's a relative newbie, having been
built in 1890 shortly after the Ottomans were booted out, although it's believed to stand
on the site of a 15th-century monastery.

MONUMENT
GOOGLE MAP
(Ivan Millutinoviqit bb) On the cliff above Mala Plaža, this imposing monument is a lovely
piece of socialist art that's now neglected and covered in graffiti. Its two V-shaped white
segments resemble a pair of fighter planes that have crash-landed on their noses. Closer
inspection reveals them as stylised wings sprouting from the figures facing each other at
the centre.
