Rex G. Cammack
Abstract Educators are always looking to update and more effective teach their
students. In the area of Internet Mapping the changes in technology can quickly
isolate course materials as obsolete. This research uses a case study approach to
looking at the issue of curriculum and technology in the planning and delivery of a
course that both education and empower creativity in students. The process of
developing educational goals and assessing how to implement them are two critical
steps in the curriculum process. The results of this step formalized the process of
reviewing and selecting technologies for Web Mapping. At the end of this process
the case study selected Adobe Flex and its IDE Flash builder as its development
tool. With the technology selected the next process was to design exercised for
student that develop there conceptual and technology skills in the area of Web
Mapping. The overall goal of this project was to enable students to go beyond their
learning task knowledge to foster link between technology and creativity. The
conclusions drawn from this case study are that a balance between technical
capabilities and creative possibility exist when using the Adobe FLEX and its
IDE Flash builder. The environment allows students to utilize both their skills in
application development and graphic design to create complex interactive Web
Mapping products.

In the process of educating students in the area of Internet Mapping, faculty must
choose systems and tools that work in tandem with their educational goals. The
number of options for these types of education technologies is almost unlimited.
